UPDATE: Eve is Wonderful!  She is a tiny, tail wagging fur ball of love and affection. She meets and greets everyone (other dogs and the few folks that have come to see us) with an open heart. She loves having her tummy rubbed and snoozes on the couch or just about any available dog bed. She has been sleeping with me at night and insists on sharing my pillow. She will give me kisses, lay her head on my pillow for a bit, then curl into a ball and go to sleep. She loves to have physical contact with me and enjoys sitting on my lap. She has 6 foster sisters and there have been no issues. She is not food aggressive. I feed all my dogs separately. Eve likes to take a bite and walk around-so she may need to have that continued in her furever home.  I have not been able to walk her due to her continual recovery from heart worm treatment, so at this time I am not sure how she will walk on a leash. Her eyes have healed very well from her surgery. She has not been exposed to cats or kids. I would recommend a home with older children because she likes to give kisses. Her approach could startle younger kids.  She enjoys the company of other dogs and will need a companion dog and fenced yard. Eve does not bark…she whines, she snores and but I have not heard a bark yet.  She is doing great with her potty training. She will walk to the door to let you know she needs to go out. If I were to foster fail her, I would name her Daffodil. She reminds me of the beautiful, happy, sunny spring flowers.  I am continually amazed at how well these dogs do when given a second chance at love. We can learn a lot from them.

Eve was one of 5 basset hounds that was relinquished by her owner because they were unable to care for them. All of the dogs were living outside in a fenced area with only wooden houses for shelter with no straw or hay to keep them warm. The dogs were all malnourished and need to gain a few pounds. Thanks to the local dog warden's urging the owner allowed Ohio Basset Rescue to take the dogs. Eve weighed about 22 lbs when examined by OBR's vet. She has been spayed and received her first vaccines and had flea prevention applied. Unfortunately Eve tested Heartworm positive and must now undergo the costly treatment for this. Eve also had surgery for cherry eye which she had in both eyes. The vet found scarring on the eyes because of the condition going untreated. He feels she may have some loss of vision as result.  Due to her undergoing the Heartworm treatment she will need a quiet environment to recover. Eve will also need to have at least one other companion dog in the home. This petite girl is a real sweetheart. She has been with 4 other bassets so we are fairly certain she will do well with another dog. If you have a a warm, quiet home where Eve can rest while she recovers from Heartworm treatment please complete an application to adopt or foster from the Ohio Basset Hound Rescue website (www.ohiobassetrescue.org).

Eve is being fostered in Deerfield, MI.
